1.This article introduced the PFE elevator energy saving unit used in OTIS elevator, on site operation shows that the regenerated energy by PFE can be returned to power grid and recycle, and elevator energy saving is Feasible.

3.Elevator energy consumption problem

Elevator which use VFD when reach the max speed, when approaching the appointed floor, need to slow down and stop, in this process, Traction Machine will need to release the energy.

Elevator also have the potential energy, there is a balance load which is around 50% of elevator full load weight(One Ton elevator around 7 people weight), only in this situation elevator balance load equal the elevator car with  Passengers.In other case, the elevator is unbanalced, so will have extra potential energy, when elevator car is lighter than balanced load, elevator regenerated energy when going up, and consume energy when going down, and when elevator car is heavier than balanced load, will consume energy when going up, and regenerated energy when going down.

When these extra energy returned to VFD, it will cause the DC voltage rising, to protect VFD, usually there will have a braking unit to consume these energy, this is not only waste the energy, but also making the operation room temperature rising fast, and reduce all the equipment life, so usually need air conditioner to cool the operation room.

If we collect these braking energy and convert to AC power to be used for some other equipment, then not only save these energy but also reduce the heat release from braking resistor, and even no need to use air conditioner, extend the equipment life and save energy.

So we can see that one elevator energy saving unit will save up to 108.2KWH, and each year save $846.23, and also will reduce the air conditioner cost and energy saving in the operation room , since temperature reduce will ensure the equipment in operation room have much longer life.
